Meet the Team

Kenny Neel

Agronomist

Kenny Neel has more than three decades of experience in the turf industry. As consulting agronomist to the Sodmasters team, Kenny trains and educates the farm managers on all aspects of sod production to deliver the highest quality sod. Kenny inspects fields at regular intervals, and makes agronomic decisions concerning soil and plant fertility, and pest control. He evaluates and makes recommendations concerning new sod varieties, procures new planting stock, and educates salespeople at the farm and at Sodmasters Landscape Center (SLC) on sod varieties and care. He consults with sod customers as requested and provides consultation and procurement assistance to SLC concerning ancillary products and usage recommendations. Kenny holds a degree in, Agronomy and Soils -Turfgrass Management from Auburn University.

James Johnson

Sodmasters Turf Farm General Manager

James Johnson is originally from Dublin, GA and is a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a B.S. in Diversified Agriculture. James has been involved with land and turf management since he was old enough to work and has continued to be heavily involved in agriculture ever since. He joined Sodmasters in 2020 as Farm Manager for Sodmasters in Georgia and looks forward to going to work every day because he is truly passionate about what he does. As Farm Manager, James can be found in numerous capacities around the farm. One day he may be working on the tractor to help get a load of sod shipped on time, but the next day he could be flying to other neighboring farms to ensure consistency among all Sodmasters locations.

Tonia Slater

Sales/Marketing Manager &
Whitehall Plantation Hospitality

Tonia Slater grew up right here in Montrose, GA, on a small family farm with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. A.W. Payne. Her grandmother was the farmer in the family & her grandfather was the local tractor & equipment mechanic. The family farm had cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, and also grew cotton, field corn, soybeans, velvet beans, peas, butterbeans & peanuts. Tonia utilizes her family’s history in farming to help steer the marketing and sales efforts for Sodmasters. A veteran of 10 years of service in Communications for the U.S. Navy, Tonia attended the University of Maryland Global where she studied Business Administration, Computer Information Technology.

Brandon Eller

Sales Manager
Sodmasters Landscape Center

Brandon serves as sales manager for the Sodmasters Landscape Center in Woodstock, Georgia. Brandon has five years of experience in the turf industry but has had a lifelong passion for turf and agriculture. That passion extends back to high school where he served as president of his local Future Farmers of America chapter.

Ty Herrington

Sales, Montrose GA

Ty Herrington is an accomplished sales and marketing professional who brings nearly 15 years of experience to his sales role for the Sodmasters Montrose location.Ty is a strong advocate for building relationships and consulting with customers to offer them solutions to challenges. He is well-versed in marketing, customer service, product development, and operations management. Ty holds a degree in Business Administration & Marketing from Georgia Southern University.

Kayley Pitts

Dispatch Manager

Kayley Pitts has over 10 years in customer service. I am naturally drawn to help others and resolve a problem. I have been in cosmetology for many years, and it is crazy how many similarities there are between hair and sod. I have also been a 911 dispatcher in the county where I was born and raised, but that did not come with the customer service side of things that I enjoy doing. I never dreamed of being a dispatch manager for a sod farm, but this is by far the most enjoyable job I’ve ever had. I have learned more about sod than I thought I would, and our agronomist Kenny Neel always provides pivotal information. I love being the dispatch manager for many reasons, but I love that I work with people that feel like family. I enjoy talking to the customers but dispatching the trucks has given me a new outlook on trucking. My plan is to retire from Sodmasters, but my heart will always be a part of the farm.

Chris Hamrick

Chief Financial Officer

Chris Hamrick is a seasoned finance professional with more than 15 years of experience in the field. He holds a BBA in Management and an MBA from Georgia Southern University. In addition, he also graduated from Banking School at the University of Georgia. When not working, Chris enjoys being outdoors where he spends his time hunting, fishing, hiking, and golfing. He also enjoys traveling and spending time with his family, Kellie (wife) and Paisley (daughter).
